Central Somers Town

  • Value: Undisclosed
  • Client: London Borough of Camden
  • Status: Planning

Within the Central Somers Town CIP planning approval, Duggan Morris Architects have designed a series of mixed-use residential buildings containing 69 residential units (affordable and market), also including a ground floor cafe and community hall, within the Central Somers Town area.

Camden Council’s proposals for the Central Somers Town project aim to provide much needed investment in the area. As well as providing high quality replacement education facilities, the development provides a unique opportunity to gain benefit for the wider community and tackle problems such as community safety, lack of affordable housing and some of the deepest inequalities in the borough including people’s health. It is a self-funded scheme with money generated from the sale of housing land to be reinvested in Somers Town as part of the Council’s Community Investment Programme (CIP), a 15 year plan to invest in schools, homes and community facilities. There will be no loss of public open space as a result of the development.

Five experienced design teams worked with the Council on the development, and developed proposals based on extensive consultation with stakeholders and the local community.
