Hampstead green, London
Hampstead Green is a contemporary extra-care housing scheme designed as part of a holistic retirement community located in the heart of Hampstead. The vision for the site was to deliver a scheme which supports a range of living accommodation and facilities for the care and well-being of older people, including 60 one and two bed extra care apartments, a health and well-being facility, shared communal facilities including a restaurant and café (which will also be open to the wider community), a library, communal lounges and activity rooms.
The realisation of PegasusLife’s ambitions for the site required the resolution of a number of complex planning, heritage, townscape, and topographical issues associated with the site’s location, which sits at a point of transition between the larger scale Royal Free Hospital to the north and east, and the smaller scale buildings to the south and west, including the Rosary Roman Catholic School.
Each block accommodates approximately three residential units per level, and each is positioned relative to the next to ensure that the journey from entrance lobby to private front door is an enjoyable and uplifting sequence of communal spaces.
