Project: A highly innovative building of 10 1-3 bedroom units, located in a copse facing a Victorian park in Lewisham.
Value: £1,600,000
Client: MacDonald Egan Ltd
Status: Pre Construction
This site represented a unique opportunity to create an innovative residential development of 12 one and two bedroom units, in the heart of Lewisham and New Cross.
The scheme is conceived as two distinct blocks facing a secluded community park, surrounded by rows of gardens serving terraces of Victorian houses. The scheme has been heavily influenced by onerous site constraints (Thames water mains, TPO's and neighbouring site conditions) whilst responding to the core design concept whereby cranked facades and twisted plans orientate the occupier towards the park connecting public and private activities, and enriching the amenity.
The resultant building, is fragmented in form, and constructed using a pre-engineered timber laminate system, wrapped in a reflective metallic skin, intended to mirror the surrounding mature landscaping and two retained 70ft trees. Large panels of full height, full width glazing, ensure the internal spaces take the fullest advantage of the views into the park, with the added benefit of long balconies serving the upper units, whilst at ground floor, sunken terraces delineate the boundary between public and private land usage.
