A competition winning scheme to develop proposals for the Tybalds Estate near Great Ormond Street, Camden. Working as a collaborative with MAE, and teamed with Avanti Architects and Camlins Landscape Architects, the project seeks to create a coherent site wide strategy strategy, creating over 80 new homes, complete with an overhaul of the landscape spaces and public realm.

The Tybalds Estate is a project to densify an existing post war estate as part of Camden’s programme to tackle the 20,000 people on the waiting list for new homes across the borough. The proposals seek to provide high quality homes and well designed new and improved open spaces with respond to the character and scale of the surrounding estate which is predominantly post war, with remains of Victorian and Georgian terraced dwellings along the edges.

The scheme aims to deliver new affordable homes (both social rented and shared ownership), including 10% wheelchair accessible homes, with vastly improved public realm, landscape and play areas across the estate and in the courtyards of many of the blocks. A core consideration in respect of the surrounding landscape is to tackle parking and pedestrian circulation, whilst improving the permeability into and across the estate.

The improvements to the open spaces are designed to meet both the requirements of the residents in the surrounding blocks and the potential new inhabitants of the proposed units.
