A scheme to substantially remodel an imposing detached dwelling, located in the St John's Wood conservation area. The proposals aim to create a contemporary environment, opening up internal spaces, and completing the detailing with restraint and subtlety thus creating a blank canvas for future owners.
A key component is the installation of a prefabricated solid timber stair case arranged over five storeys, from lower ground to newly converted roof space. The design allowed for a segmented fabrication and installation process, and was conceived as an unravelled ‘orange peel' or ‘wood shaving' in form.
